Where the Sphinx is

The Great Sphinx sits at the eastern edge of the Giza plateau, in front of the pyramid of Khafre, next to the Valley Temple. It faces east toward the rising sun.

What to see

From the viewing terrace you see the Sphinx head-on with the pyramids behind, the perfect photo. The neighbouring Valley Temple shows the massive granite blocks used in the pharaonic building works.

Best photo spots

  • The terrace in front for the classic head-on shot
  • The panorama point for the Sphinx with all three pyramids
  • Late afternoon for warm light on the limestone
